As Indian Prime Minister attended the annual summit in Russia on June 1, the much-awaited strategic nuclear deal has been finalized. The last two units of the Kundankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu will be made by Russia’s help.

The vision document released after the talks between the two leaders stated the final conclusion of the General Framework Agreement (GFA) and Credit Protocol for units 5 and 6 of the nuclear plant. The two units will be built by Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) and Russia's Atomstroyexport company jointly.  Atomstroyexport company is a subsidiary of Rosatom, the regulatory body of the Russian nuclear complex. The two units will have the capacity to produce 1000 megawatt of nuclear power which is a huge boost to India’s nuclear power. The document stated extended bilateral relations for expansion of energy cooperation in other fields other than nuclear power too.

There were many other major outcomes of the annual summit. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin have many similar thoughts over different issues existing now like about terrorism in Afghanistan, Middle-East, and Asia-Pacific. Also, Mr. Putin promises to extend full support to India for a permanent seat in the reformed UN Security Council and a membership in the Nuclear Supplier Group and other non-proliferation regimes. India and Russia will also extend bilateral economic cooperation to third countries by jointly working on economic and development projects in global markets.
