Nestled in the heart of Hassan district, 183 km to the West of Bangalore, lies the remarkable Hasanamba Temple. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Shakti, Hasanamba, and is considered one of the most sacred and revered shrines in India.
What sets this temple apart is the unique tradition it follows. The temple only opens its doors once a year, during the full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashwija, usually in late October or early November, and remains open for just a week.
According to legends, once the seven matrikas were travelling to Earth, when they were captivated by the beauty of Hassan and decided to make it their home. The temple is famous for its miracles and legends of seven matrikas. It is revered as one of the greatest in Hassan, attracting tens of thousands of visitors every year who come to receive the goddess' blessings.
The temple remains closed for the rest of the year, with the goddess being offered a lit lamp, flowers, water, and two bags of rice as offerings. The most intriguing aspect of the temple is the miracles associated with it. The nandaa deepa, a ghee-lit lamp, burns continuously without depleting, and the anna naivedya, the rice offering, remains warm and unspoiled even after a year.
The temple is also known for its unique architecture and beautiful carvings, and is believed to have been constructed around the 12th century. The temple is a symbol of India's rich cultural heritage and spiritual beliefs, and a visit to this sacred shrine is an experience like no other. Whether you believe in the miracles or not, the Hasanamba Temple is sure to leave a lasting impression on you, as you immerse yourself in the aura of divinity.
