For office goers, the post office is almost inaccessible due to its early closing hours. To render postal services to working people, Bengaluru started its first evening post office service.
On Monday, India Post opened Bengaluru's first evening post office. The post office, which is located on Museum Road, provides services like speed post, parcel booking, package packing, Aadhaar services, picture postcards, and stamp services.
The office will be open six days a week from 1 pm to 9 pm. With the introduction of this initiative, working professionals will now have simpler access to services. According to postal assistant Vinay Shreyas, "In a conventional post office, the counter closing time is 3:30, but the evening post office offers a special purpose for workers and senior citizens who come for booking inquiries."
In November 2022, the first evening post office was opened in Dharwad, Karnataka, and after its success, a proposal to open one in Bengaluru followed. There are plans to introduce more such evening post offices in Bengaluru to benefit officegoers in the city.
Along with standard services, users can purchase augmented postcards. The history of the picture can be displayed by scanning postcards. The cost of renovating the post office, according to officials, was Rs 3 lakh. The history of post offices is also vividly depicted across the entire building.
