Tinnitus sufferers may soon have hope for relief, thanks to a new device that has been found to significantly reduce ear ringing. A study published in the American Journal of Audiology has revealed that the device, called Lenire, can reduce tinnitus symptoms by up to 60%.
Tinnitus is a condition characterized by a persistent ringing or buzzing sound in the ears, which can be distressing and interfere with daily life. The Lenire device is designed to deliver audio and tongue stimulation to the brain, which helps to retrain the auditory system and reduce the perception of tinnitus.
The study involved 326 participants with chronic tinnitus who used the Lenire device for 12 weeks. The results showed that 86% of participants experienced a reduction in tinnitus symptoms, with an average reduction of 14 points on a tinnitus severity scale. The device was also found to be safe and well-tolerated by most participants.
The findings have been welcomed by tinnitus sufferers and healthcare professionals, who say that the Lenire device could offer a much-needed alternative to existing treatments, which are often ineffective or have side effects. The device is currently available in Europe and is undergoing regulatory review in the United States.
