The Indian Institute of Technology- Madras has developed an electric flying taxi that promises to revolutionize urban travel. The ePlane company, a start-up founded by the premier institution, showcased the electric flying taxi at the Aero India event held in Bengaluru. The electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVOTL) model offers a range of around 200 km on a single charge and can travel at speeds between 150 kmph and 200 kmph.
The electric flying taxi has been designed to ease urban travel and is claimed to be ten times faster than cars. According to the startup, the electric flying taxi requires only 25 square meters of space to stay parked and weighs around 200 kg. It comes equipped with four ducted fans as its propellers and can accommodate two passengers per ride. The flying taxi is perfect for roof-top to roof-top urban air mobility in any city and offers a hassle-free travel experience.
To build the prototype, the ePlane Corporation has raised about $1 million. Although the business plans to eventually offer autonomous technology, the electric flying taxi still needs a pilot to fly. According to the firm, the price per passenger for a single trip will be around twice as much as what Uber typically costs for the same distance.
The electric flying taxi is a step forward in sustainable urban transportation, offering an alternative to the traditional modes of transport. With its impressive speed and range, it has the potential to revolutionize urban travel, making it quicker and hassle-free.
