JandK Operations Pvt Ltd, an incubated firm of the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT Madras), has developed a mobile operating system named 'Bharos', which can be used on commercial off-the-shelf handsets.
IIT Madras director V Kamakoti said that this innovative system promises to revolutionize the way users think about security and privacy on their mobile devices. He added that in order to boost the use and adoption of BharOS throughout the nation, they look forward to cooperating closely with many more private enterprises, governmental organizations, strategic agencies, and telecom service providers.
This system is designed to provide users with more freedom, control and flexibility to choose and use only the apps that are needed, so that the users can handle sensitive information with confidential communication on restricted apps on mobiles.
Bharos does not come with any default apps and provides access to private cloud services and app stores that have been thoroughly vetted for security and privacy standards.
Additionally, it also provides 'Native Over the Air' (NOTA) updates which keeps devices secure and up-to-date.
