To run a government is not the army’s business, said the Pakistan Army chief at the gathering of army officers of Rawalpindi Garrison at the General Headquarters auditorium recently.
The general recommended the officers to read ‘Army and Nation: The Military and Indian Democracy since Independence’, written by Steven I Wilkinson. The book also details why India’s democratic process has been a success.
It has been widely reported that Gen Bajwa reads a lot about India, including reports in the media and books about the country.
Bajwa told the officers that the Pakistan Army must operate within its constitutionally defined role, ‘The Nation’ reported.
This shows how Indian democracy has been motivating and pleasantly surprising other nations to follow its structure. Pakistan is a turbulent nation and is a neighbor of India. If peace starts dwelling in that nation, then even India will see its positive reflection on borders.
Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa is appointed in this capacity since November 2016. He had served at the Army GHQ and as field commander of the X Corps from 2013 to 2015 which is responsible for the area along the Line of Control at Kashmir.
