Inculcating right things in schools is need of the time and this is exactly what schools in Pimpri Chinchwad will be doing.
Municipal Schools in PCMC area will have rain water harvesting under a pilot project. Taking into consideration the summers started in early March and the water woes that the city might face, this pilot project will make sure to save the rain water for future.
This move has been taken by Environment Conservation Association (ECA) with the permission of PCMC. The project will be undertaken as a private company’s social responsibility activitiy.
The global warming has brought in an alarming condition in the state where water scarcity is being observed every year. Therefore with the sense of even teaching school students about the same, this move will surely be fruitful.
It is important for students to understand the importance of water and if the same importance is marked while being in the school, students can think about the same in their future.
With the time constraint and monsoon being just three-months away, this project has been undertaken in 12 schools out of the 82 schools in Pimpri-Chinchwad. If all goes well, then till next year all the municipal schools will have the facility of rain water harvesting.
This project will make sure that the rainwater is used efficiently to recharge ground water levels.
As per the report published in The Times of India, this project that costs approximately 12 lakhs will be begin from this week and is expected to be completed before the monsoon hits the city.
