We all know of Pushkar Fair as the largest cattle fair in the world. However, there is more to it in the form of cultural events and competitions that include dances, tug of war between women and men teams, the "matka phod", "longest moustache" competition, "bridal competition", camel races and others.
The Pushkar fair which is held in the months of October- November (depending on the occurrence of the holy Kartik Purnima or full moon day of Kartik month) draws a large number of crowds from all over the world. Apart from the vibrant display of unique exhibitions and exciting competitions, people from all over the country visit this place for its religious significance. Thousands gather to take a dip in the Pushkar lake on the full moon day which is considered to be sacred.

Then there is the cattle fair, which is one of the major highlights of Pushkar Festival, Rajasthan. The fair witnesses the cattle owners bringing their livestock – camels, horses, cows, goat and sheep, all dressed in colorful attire to be sold and purchased.
The lure of shopping also draws people to Pushkar fair. You can choose and shop for unique handicraft items from the number of makeshift stalls that are set up. The stalls also sell items ranging from saddle straps, saddles and beads to strings of cowries. Women love to shop at this fair where you can find a gamut of traditional silver ornaments, bead necklaces from Nagpur, garments of patchwork, printed textiles from Ajmer and traditional footwear, besides others.
Harmony Half Marathon is one of the things not to miss in Pushkar Fair. Held during the course of the Pushkar Fair, the run starts from Dargah Ajmer Sharif and ends at the Pushkar Stadium Ground.
All these events attract people to the Pushkar Fair which has over the years become very popular and a famous tourist destination.
