The residents of Tsavo (A region of Kenya) had experienced severe droughts in the past owing to lack of rains which not only affected people but, also the wildlife. The 2009 drought resulted in the deaths of numerous animals at the Tsavo West National Park and to hinder such circumstances Patrick Mwalua makes sure the animals are getting access to potable water.
Patrick feels people of Kenya don’t have the desire to do much for the wild animals. Hence, he wanted to emphasis on wildlife since the beginning.
He is popularly known as the ‘Waterman of Tsavo’ for providing clean drinking water to the wild animals of Tsavo West National Park on a regular basis. He travels 70 km every day with a blue rental water truck and the animals rejoice on seeing Patrick as they get to quench their thirst. A single truck of water costs $250.
However, lately, Patrick is not being able to work much for wild animals due to kidney failure. The dialysis makes him extremely worn out which restrains him from giving a lot of time to the wildlife.
Most of us think of our comfort level first rather considering others' and Patrick is someone just the opposite. He is one such person who has dedicated a huge part of his life to the wild animals. We hope he gets well soon.
