With more than 85 rides and also leading few of these rides, Sharmishtha Chakravorty is one of the woman bikers in the city who has motivated many girls to take up bike riding. Being passionate about biking, Sharmishtha would always ride her friends’ bike whenever she would get an opportunity. It was only in the year 2011, that she transformed this love for bike by starting a bike club named The Musafirs with her friend Nishan.
Being the co-founder of this huge family that organises bike rides, she has covered entire Maharashtra, major parts of India and now this crazy bike family is ready to explore few international places.
A mechanical engineer by profession who works in a private company, bikes have always been her first love.
Talking about her love for bikes she said, “I was fortunate enough to find friends who helped me to take my love for bikes ahead and then we registered our bike family and have been organising bike rides since then. Since 2011, we have had 85 rides out of which one is international.”
Sharmishtha bought her first bike in the year 2013 and since then there was never looking back.
Her bike ride has covered almost all the parts of Maharashtra, Konkan, Hampi, Silvasa, Leh, Spiti, Mandu and Thailand among various other destinations.
Now her gang of bikers is all set to explore Bhutan in May 2017.
Ask her about her love life and she is happy to share about her better half who equally loves bike.
Married to Brijesh Kirtonia in 2015, she said, “Apart from friends that I made during my various rides, I also found my soulmate on a ride. He knew that I was passionate about biking and travelling. Therefore even three years of marriage has not changed my life even a bit. His constant support has helped me to take my love for bikes to another level.”
Even while, their biking family Musafirs has more than 500 members, at a time, there are around 70 members who ride together. Right from planning, till the execution of the rides, everything is managed by Sharmishtha and her co-founder.
“There have been many rides, but now I am eagerly waiting for the Bhutan ride in May which will be lead by me,” she added.
Apart from the rides, their bikers' family also do their bits towards a social cause. Being professionals in different fields, the club has been visiting different orphanages and rural schools and donated the needful things.
Recently the club has donated computer to a school in Kasara and has also paid a visit to an orphanage near Pune and donated basic items.
Sharmishtha said, “We believe that apart from travelling and biking, it is our duty as a responsible citizen to do something for the society. When so many people come together for happiness, why not share the same happiness by riding and also helping the society in a small manner.”
