Taking into consideration the holidays and number of people coming to Mumbai to see the tourist places, now Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will give 50 per cent discount on the parking charges near tourist locations on holidays. Under the new pay and park policy, this move has been decided so that people get motivated to park their vehicles in the designated parking area and avoid any congestion on the road. Due to illegal parking there are many pedestrians who face the problem.
After announcing the move, there has been 300 per cent increase in the parking depending on the zones an area falls under.
The city has been divided into three zones depending on the traffic movement and type of the area (commercial or residential). For instance, in category A, which sees high traffic density, you’ll have to pay Rs60 an hour opposed to Rs20 earlier.
Under the pay-and-park policy, residents can apply for permits to park on roads.
There will be yearly permits and slots to buildings and housing societies with no parking space. The monthly pay for parking will come around Rs 600 to 1800 depending upon the zone.
All the residential Parking spots will be marked with yellow paint and will be allotted after an no-objection certificate from the traffic police.
