Come Gudi Padwa and Mumbai will see Women auto rickshaw driver on the road. The first batch of women auto rickshaw drivers who had applied for the license were handed over the permits on Saturday, the excited bunch of ladies are planning to start their work on the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa.
Hemangi Bendre, one of the residents in Vikhroli who received her permit shared her happiness with The Times of India saying that she was firm on acquiring skills for the permit as soon as the policy for women auto drivers was announced.
The other women who have received their permits have completed their graduation and post-graduation are also happy to kick start their work in this field which was dominated by males in the city.
The permits were handed over to all the women auto drivers by Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray’s wife Rashmi Thackeray in Mulund. This successful project was initiated by Matoshree Women Savings Group Federation, Maharashtra Autorickhsaw Chalak Sena, Matoshree Foundation and TVS. Apart from these 19 women, there 111 more permit which are also given by the RTO, Mumbai.
As one can see women auto drivers in the city, Mumbaikars are now also hoping to see more and more school bus drivers also to be women.
