Giving a cut throat competition to the private cab services in the city that operate through apps on the smart phones, now The Mumbai Taximen’s Union and Mumbai Taxi Association will also come under one roof of application and set up their first ever control-room.
This initiative has been taken to monitor the movement of cabs using apps in the smart phones. The apps operation will start working from June 1.
As per the report in the Times of India, union leader A L Quadros said, "We are launching our very own app for drivers, who are being registered under the City Taxi Scheme. We have submitted a report on our project to the Andheri RTO and very soon, a control room will be set up to assist Kaali-Peelis ( as these taxis are known due their black and yellow colour)," he added.
There are at least 12, 000 black and yellow cabs in Mumbai city and all its drivers can switch to a mobile app. Taking into consideration the stiff competition faced by other private cab services, the services for Kaali-Peelis will also soon start.
Now, it will be possible for the cab drivers to do away from the electronic meter and operate using app and e-bills. This will help the cab drivers to generate more revenue and also help the commuters to book their vehicle through app instead of running behind the cabs.
