Making the city a smart one is what Pune is aiming for and to go ahead with the same project, now Pune city will have a Wi-Fi in gardens and schools.
The Pune Municipal Corporation is planning to provide free Wi-Fi service in 100 gardens and schools.
In collaboration with IBM, Larsen & Toubro and RailTel, Google recently struck a Wi-Fi deal with the Pune Smart City Development Corporation (PSCSCL).
Wi-Fi hotspots will be provided at around 200 strategic locations across the city with the help of fibre connectivity. As a part of the smart city mission, Wi-Fi in gardens and schools are an important aspect of this project. The project will come in action in next few months as the corporation has already all set with the plan.
"The project will be a part of the Smart City initiative. We are also looking at why the earlier projects didn't start. We will try to rework on those plans," said Rahul Jagtap, head of the PMC IT department.
Deputy mayor Siddharth Dhende, said, "The new project will cover civic properties, including gardens, schools and administrative buildings. The paperwork is complete and installation of the Wi-FI kits will start soon"
He added, " Contractors were appointed for the earlier project. But it could not take off, as the civic administration made some changes in the project on the lines of the Centre's Digital India scheme. The project fizzled out. I am, however, confident that the new plan will be a success," he said.
