In coming eight years, the Norwegian Government is planning to ensure that all cars sold in Norway will be low or zero emission vehicles.
It aims to achieve this goal by enforcing a stringent green tax plan. It will also provide more financial incentives. Presently, a total ban on conventional fuel-powered vehicles is not in the offing, according reports appearing in the media.
At present, 37% of Norway’s automotive market is covered by electric and hybrid cars. The government hopes to make it 100% by the year 2025.
For last more than 25 years, Norway has extended more than a dozen benefits for hybrid or electric car owners, including 50% reduced car tax, fees concession on toll on roads and ferries, as well as prioritized access on the highway.
To facilitate the charging of large number of electric cars, Norway plans to facilitate one charging station for every 10 electric cars on the road. This number is expected to rise to about 50,000 by the year 2020.
Going for low emission cars could also decrease CO2 emissions by up to 70%, as per the area.
The goal set by the Norwegian Government to switch to zero emission vehicles by 2025 not only needs appreciation by other countries, of the world, but also followed to reduce pollution caused by fossil fuel vehicles.
