Nirmala Sitharaman became the first Indian woman defence minister to take off on the all-weather long-range fighter, Sukhoi-30 MKI jet. Donning an olive green pilot’s G-suit and a helmet, she soared high to 8000 metres in the supersonic jet that took off from the Air Force station at Jodhpur.
After the 45 minute flight, she landed and said that it was a memorable experience and a smooth ride. She also praised the pilot, Sumit Garg for his expertise. Earlier at the Air Force station, she was welcomed by IAF officers and had a brief meeting with the air warriors.
