Bollywood film "Newton", which was released on Friday was also selected as the official entry to the Oscars on the same day. Telugu film producer-director C V Reddy led the Film Federation of India jury that selected the entries for the Oscar this year.
Newton is a political satire that narrates a story of a gritty clerk sent on election duty in the Naxal affected town in Chattisgarh. He puts his best efforts to ensure free and fair elections in the sparsely populated area who are caught in between the conflict between communist rebels and the security forces.
The film starring Rajkummar Rao in the leading role also features Anjali Patil, Sanjay Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Raghubir Yadav and Hardik Meriya in important roles. Newton has been directed by Amit V Masurkar and is produced by Manish Mundra and Drishyam films. It will compete in the Best Foreign Language Film in the 90th year of Academy Awards.
It is also slated to become the first film to get a grant of one crore from the Government of India in a bid to promote good films. It was selected from 26 contesting entries. Only three Indian movies have reached the finals of Oscars till date and Newton hopes to take it a step ahead! We wish it all the best
