Miranda Gibson, a teacher by profession put her career on hold and mentally prepared herself to live on a tree to stop the logging of endangered forests in Styx Valley in Tasmania. She stayed atop the tree without touching the ground for 14 months and took pictures of loggers who were deterred by her actions. When she finally descended on the ground, she was hailed as a hero for protecting the forest.
Miranda’s deep and abiding love of nature gave her the courage to take this bold step. She is the spokesperson for Australian grass-roots forest advocacy group Still Wild Still Threatened, is involved in the monitoring of native wildlife and endangered species in threatened forests and is the co-author of the book Flora and Fauna Guide to the Upper Florentine Valley.
