Young sports enthusiasts of the country will be delighted to know that the Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has announced the launch of the National School and College Games. The Games will tap talent from every nook and corner of the country.
Speaking at a function held in New Delhi to felicitate the U-17 World Cup Indian football team, Rathore said that there is a need for change in the way we look at sports and all stakeholders should be involved to take Indian sports to a new level.
In this regard, the government has decided to start for the first time the Khelo India National School Games in December 2017 and Khelo India National College Games in January 2018. Rathore said that these will be annual events and will help identify and nurture talent.
He said the corporate houses will be involved in this endeavour and the Games will be telecast live. He further informed that from these Games,1000 children will be selected and be given Rs 5 lakh for eight years for their training and each year 1000 children more will be added.
At the event, Rathore also motivated the U-17 Indian football team to play to win the World Cup that will begin on Friday.
