Being responsible for society is one thing which we all must work on. When an individual comes forward to do something for the betterment of it, a lot of things gradually take a positive turn. With an urge to ameliorate the society, Pune’s Sathya Natarajan puts in a lot of effort which results in laudable outcomes. He has collaborated with 60 NGOs and social groups till now and wishes to do a lot more.
On weekdays Sathya makes sure to teach the underprivileged children, they generally happen to be kids of the labourers. “Teaching the labourers’ children is one of the things which I do on the weekdays. I am well versed in only English and Tamil and at times some kids who only understand Marathi also comes for the classes. So, in such situations, I take my child along with me to teach them as she knows the language very well. One of my colleagues also helps me out sometimes.” He told My Indian Dream.
Sathya also works for a group of college students on the weekdays. He teams up with them and gathers slum kids to paint murals on the street walls. They even do paintings which are educative for the children.
Sathya feels littering the roads is one of the significant problems owing to which our environment is getting affected. So, he makes it a point to work on the Swachh Bharat mission every weekend. From getting on random busses in order to educate people about littering to collecting trash from hills and water bodies, he does it all with a group of people.
The stigma around menstruation has still not come to an end in India which bothers Sathya a lot. So, to break the taboo he organizes selective cultural programs related to it. Through this endeavour, he tries to make men understand how important it is to empathize with women when they menstruate. He also maintains a WhatsApp group where he educates women on how to use a cloth pad, sanitary pad, and a menstruation cup.
Be it fundraising for Oxfam or gathering people for a walk organized by the charitable organization, Sathya does everything to bring a change in the society. He even promotes desktop volunteering, through which social investors can identify NGOs sitting at their homes and fund them for a good cause like planting a tree or anything that benefits the society.
Sathya also tries to break prejudices through the human library, a concept which allows people to interact with others belonging from different walks of life. Every story is strong and has the ability to change perceptions.
Sathya has been working with a Boston-based MNC for the past 15 years but, for now, has taken a sabbatical of three months. Its been 10 years since he started working for the society and the list of works that he has done is never-ending. We hope he emerges successful in everything that he does in life.
