In a bid to make our country pollution free several people are doing their part. We can only get rid of the contamination if we step ahead to make a difference. And with a similar urge, Kolkata’s solar man SP Gon Chaudhuri wants to bring in a change in this country by harnessing clean energy.
Mr Chaudhuri was conferred with the Mission Innovation Champion Award of India for his immense contribution in providing energy to rural India as reported by TOI. He along with eighteen others have been felicitated with the prestigious award and all of them will be working as ambassadors of innovations in their countries with the help of their government.
Mr Chaudhuri is a specialist in renewable energy systems and has also been conferred with the Green Oscar award. He has even published numerous papers on solar energy and his work in the field of solar PV off-grid projects has brought in a lot of positive changes in the lives of many villagers. He also headed West Bengal and Tripura’s renewable energy department for 25 years.
In a conversation with TOI, Mr Chaudhuri said: “I believe in the potential of renewable energy in heating, cooling, drinking water, and rural transport. As a Mission Innovation Champion, I will lead innovators and initiate a nationwide programme.”
Making the right use of renewable and solar energy can solve half of the problems in rural areas. The issues related to electricity and cooking will not exist at all. We hope more people like Mr Chaudhuri come forward and do something about it.
