Lego car kits are a favourite among several of them but, who knew someday its parts would be used to build a wheelchair for an adorable box turtle named Pedro? He was already missing one of his back legs when his owners adopted him and he lost the other hind leg after fleeing from his home for a few months.
Seeing Pedro struggle left his owners in dismay so they brought him to Louisiana State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital located in Baton Rouge. The communications manager (Ginger Guttner) there told CNN: "There was nothing medically wrong with him. But of course he didn't have any back legs, so our doctors quickly had to figure out what they were going to do."
To come up with a solution to replace Pedro’s hind legs was important for the doctors so, a zoological intern got his hands on a lego car kit. With the help of some syringe parts along with animal –safe epoxy the doctors made a little rig.
CNN also reported that the wheelchair can be snapped off from the bottom of Pedro’s shell in order to keep him clean.
It feels that we are living in a great world when we come across such amazing things. People caring for animals to such an extent gives us hope that this planet will be a safer place for each and every animal one day.
