Madhya Pradesh is the only state that has two consecutive Guinness records for sapling plantation and now, it is all set to claim another record for this year’s sapling plantation done around the Narmada belt on July 2.

The first record was made in 2013 for the plantation of  17 lakh saplings in three districts, including Shahdol, Anuppur and Umaria by the state forest department.

In 2014, the forest department planted 1.43 crore saplings throughout the state that also got registered in Guinness records.

This year, the state government carried out a massive drive to plant 6 crore saplings in 12 hours' time along the banks of river Narmada. The plantation drive started from 7 am and continued till 7 pm along the river covering 24 districts of the state.

The day-long campaign was launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan by performing puja and planted saplings at Amarkantak, from where the river Narmada originates. According to officials, they have collected extensive data, videos and other evidence of the sapling plantation drive and got it certified.

After compilation, this evidence will be forwarded to the Guinness headquarters in London by next month. It will then take about a month for the panel to decide whether it is a record.

Since no other state has conducted such a massive plantation drive within a stipulated time, the officials are certain that it will be registered in the Guinness Records.
