In a bid to reduce the noise pollution in the city, Kozhikode branch of Indian Medical Association with the state government, ENT association, Kerala Police, Motor Vehicle Department has launched a noise free Kozhikode initiative.
The move was taken under the National Initiative for Safe Sound (NISS) to mark the observance of No horn day. This move will create awareness on the problems caused due to noice pollution.
Studies have shown that regular hearing of loud noise will lead to hearing problems, fatigue, hypertension, sleeping disorders, diabetes for the youths as well as senior citizens. Under this initiative, a cycle rally was held in the city spreading awareness about ill effects of noice pollution. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran inaugurated the public convention.
Dr P N Ajitha, president of Kozhikode branch of IMA said “We aim at creating public awareness to avoid unnecessary honking. A programme will be launched to create public awareness and convert Kozhikode as noise free district. We have already distributed notices to public and put up posters at the petrol pumps to create public awareness about the initiative as it requires support from each individual for the success of the project.”
