What stated as an observation of filthy place in Kota ended up as a cleanliness task for a student. As Harshavardhan Nigam stayed in Kota to study at a JEE Coaching centre he would pass by Vigyan Nagar and observe a garbage strewn near he wall. With the filthy appearance and stink all over the area, Harshavardhan would always think of doing something for the same. He promised himself that if he successfully cracks JEE entrance examination then surely he will clean the spot and make it a better place. After clearing the entrance examination he thought of the promise and started cleaning the place. This 18-yearl-old boy who bagged All India Rank 4534 started working on fulfilling the promise. He also requested two friends Harshit Nakra and Pragyam to help him in this task.
As per a report published in Hindustan Times, Harshavardhan informed, “After cracking JEE Advanced 2017 on June 11, I sought help from municipal corporator of Kota Municipal Corporation Girriraj Mahawar in cleaning the garbage as a large number of coaching students and locals pass it every day.”
While helping him in this project, Mahawar arranged for a water tanker and few sanitation workers who helped him clean the place.
Mahawar arranged for a water tanker and half a dozen sanitation workers. Together they cleaned up the garbage within four hours on Sunday morning. They cleaned the place on a Sunday morning in four hours. After cleaning the spot, Harshavardhan also painted the wall and designed few graffiti and beautified the wall. The reason behind beautifying the spot was that no one throws garbage near the wall.
“My two friends and I saved around ₹4000 for last three months for cleaning and painting graffiti. Although I will leave Kota in the next few months after my admission to IIT, I thought this would be my gift to the coaching students and city inhabitants,” he said.
Talking about this good deed Mahavar said, “Harshavardhan’s endeavour is exemplary and inspirational. If every citizen thinks like him then Kota will really be a clean city.”
This is surely one of the best examples that a students has showed and set an example in front of others too. Even while students are stressed and have to face competition still such examples proves that there is a responsible citizen hidden behind every student. If more and more people take a cue from such projects then no doubt India can successfully work towards the path of Swacch Bharat Abhiyan in thr truest form.
