SKYTRAX has conferred the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) with the best regional airport award in India and Central Asia. The World Airport Awards, also known as the passenger choice award, are based on 13.82 million survey questionnaires from July 2016 to February 2017, covering 550 airports around the world.
Regional airports refer to those airports which operate short international and domestic flights, rather than intercontinental schedules. The KIA was in 2011 recognized as the best airport in India by SKYTRAX and the Best Regional Airport in Central Asia in 2015.
The airports were evaluated by traveller's experience across 39 key performance indicators. The customers were allowed to make their own personal choices and parameters to decide which airport is the best. The award was announced at the World Airport Awards, held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam Netherlands, on Tuesday.
Managing director, Bangalore International Airport limited (BIAL) Sanjay Reddy said that in the past year they had made efforts to introduce various innovations and initiatives for enabling simple and comfortable travel for the passengers and offering them an easy experience at the airport.
KIA is known to be the busiest airport in southern India and is the third largest airport in the country.
