Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal has come up with India’s first four seater passenger solar car. It is the third project of team SolarMobil of MIT, Manipal. The team is all set to launch this project, SM-S1 on the occasion of Engineer’s Day.
It is a matter of great pride for the students of MIT as they have solely designed and manufactured the car. While very little research has been done among Indian universities in the field of solar powered passenger vehicles, the members of SolarMobil independently conducted the research, development and study to make the solar powered passenger car.
The team wishes to create strong interest in solar powered automobiles which will serve as a benchmark for all future development by major players in the industry.
The solar car can attain a speed of 80km/hr and can run a distance of 180Km. The solar panels of the car are sponsored by Tata Power Solar.
The students chose to launch this endeavor on Engineers Day which is celebrated in India on September 15 every year to commemorate the birthday of the legendary engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya.
The launch will showcase the boundless capabilities and talent that the students of MIT possess.
