The ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 is proving lucky for India’s premier cricketer Mithali Raj. After creating a world record by smashing seven consecutive fifty-plus scores, Mithali added yet one more feather to her cap when she became the leading run-getter in ODIs getting ahead of past England player Charlotte Edwards’ record of 5992 ODI runs.
Ever since her debut in 1999, Mithali Raj has been an outstanding player. Currently, she is the captain of the women’s cricket team. On Wednesday she gave Indians plenty of reason to cheer. While playing against Australia, she punched Ellyse Perry to cover to become the highest run getter in ODIs. She also became the first cricketer in the history of women’s cricket to reach 6000 runs. No other woman cricketer has achieved this feat.
Mithali Raj is only the second player in women’s cricket history to average over 50 in ODIs, the first being Australia’s Meg Lanning with the highest average of 54.12. Currently, the Indian skipper’s average is 51.
She has remained not out 48 times which is the most in women’s cricket.
Yet, the day belonged to Australia as they defeated India to enter the semi-finals. India’s next match against New Zealand is crucial as they will have to win it to claim the last semi-final spot in the World Cup
