Indian Shot Putter Manpreet Kaur has won gold medal in Asian Grand Prix in in Jinhua, China on Monday, 24 Apr, 2017.
Manpreet thrown the shot put to a distance of 18.86 meters. The International athletics federation lists season’s best throw at 18.54 meters in the women’s shot put. It makes Manpreet best woman shot putter at present as her throw is recognized as best throw of 2017 till date, by International athletics federation.
Manpreet’s throw was about one meter more than her earlier national record of 17.96m which was set in 2015. Manpreet's 18.86m is the top mark so far in the world in this season.
This performance has given Manpreet a qualifier for the IAAF World Championships. It will take place in August in London. The qualifying standard for women's shot put in the upcomming World Championships is 17.75m.
Shot putter Bian Song of China finished at a distant second with 17.96m
Her feat on Monday is remarkable in view of her comeback after a three-year break owing to motherhood. After that, Manpreet has surpassed the senior women’s shot put record twice in last 18 months. Manpreet had also won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in Guwahati in 2016.
Manpreet’s husband Karamjit is also national-level thrower and her coach and she dedicates her success to him, as well as her supportive in-laws.
