India will finish the construction of the world’s tallest railway bridge over the river Chenab in Jammu and Kashmir by 2019.

This engineering marvel is designed by the consultants from Finland and Germany. The work on this project has already  commenced.

The bridge is a part of the Katra and Banihal stretch of the Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla portion of the Kashmir Railway project.The bridge will be 1.31 kilometre long with an incredible height of 359 metres over the river. The bridge will be 35 metres taller than Eiffel Tower.

The bridge will also have many security measures. An aerial security is provided for the bridge. Also an online monitoring and warning system for taking immediate security measures during accidents. Adjacent to the track, trails for cycles and footpaths are provided.

The bridge will have sensors to monitor the wind velocity. If the velocity exceeds above 90 kilometre per hour, the train will be signalled to stop. The area of the bridge is a seismic zone and also close to the border. So special ropeway is being established for inspections and surveillances. Steel is the material chosen to make the bridge as it has resistance against temperature change and windy conditions. Certain portion of the bridge will be blast proof as the region is terror prone.

The completion of the project is said to be March, 2019.
