India is a country where girls are always considered the weaker section of the society. To increase the awareness among people about the inequalities faced by the girl child in the society, India celebrates National Girl Child Day on January 24th.

Indian women have always fought against the odds and won their battles, yet we Indians fail to respect the women of our country. This day not only highlights the difficulties of a girl child but also celebrates the accomplishments of the  Indian women.

This Wednesday was observed as the National Girl Child Day and many leaders came ahead and wrote a positive message for the girls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a small video with a message, "We salute the skills and strengths and fortitude of the girl child. We are proud of the accomplishments of the girl child in various fields".

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also gave her best wishes and tweeted about the Kanyashree scheme of the state. This scheme aims at ensuring that girls complete their education and delay the age of marriage to 18 at least. Her tweet was as follows, "Today is the National Girl Child Day. We are proud of our Kanyashree girls. Our scheme for the girl child is an international model now. My best wishes to all."

Suresh Prabhu, Commercial and Industries Minister also gave his wishes and tweeted, "National Girl Child Day celebrates the splendid achievements of the girl child and also challenge gender-based stereotypes. Let every girl child be cherished and given equal opportunities to shine forth in her life."

Many others like Smriti Irani, Arvind Kejriwal and Piyush Goyal came forward to wish the girl child of India.

India has witnessed a lot of recent changes to empower the women of India. The Union  government has also taken steps towards progressing the girl child from Beti Bachao Scheme, Sukanya Samridhi Account and Dhanlaxmi Scheme.

As we witness the positive changes towards empowering the women of India, let's hope the future of our country witnesses more powerful women who lead our nation.
