Iceland has become the first country in the world to enact the world’s first equal pay law. The law came into force on January 1, 2018. This new law requires companies with 25 or more employees to obtain certification to confirm that equal pay is a reality for all employees, regardless of gender.
According to the Icelandic Ministry of Welfare's official website, companies will get a period of four years to comply with the new regulations. With the enactment of this law, the World Economic Forum has ranked Iceland as the global leader in reducing gender inequality.
