There is great joy in giving. The joy spreads not only to the recipients but also to the givers. This was experienced by the students of the Indian Institute of Technology- Madras as they celebrated Daan Utsav with a thanksgiving lunch for the institute's support staff on Wednesday.
The support staff comprising of security guards, cleaning staff, mess workers, bus drivers and others were glad to be a part of the celebrations.
The events of the festival are being organized by the IIT-Madras Branding Cell of International and Alumni Relations Student Council. IIT- Madras is celebrating the festival for the second time. It began on Monday and will continue till October 8.
The students of the International and Alumni Secretariat have actively participated with IIT-M’s Daan Utsav for the past two years. They have also come up with some great, thoughtful initiatives. It’s dean Prof R Nagarajan stated that just as their alumni gives back to society by creating jobs and boosting the economy, so do their students-- albeit in a different context.
There are more events on the way which includes beautifying Velachery railway station with the help of Fine Arts Club on October 7, informal games in collaboration with Hindi Mitra Mandal and donations to the Cancer Institute.
