I remember when I was in school, we had this silence bell which was in the second last period of the day. As soon as the silence bell rang, we students were supposed to stop all activity and just remain silent for two minutes. It helped us to calm down and gather ourselves because as kids we were all very restless and active.
A new concept - the water bell has been introduced in Indraprastha Vidyalaya in Mangaluru. The motive behind this water bell is to ensure that students drank adequate water during the day.
Health issues Of Students
There have been many cases of students being afflicted with urinary tract infections and kidney stones which are usually triggered by dehydration. Hence there is a need for students to stay hydrated. However, it was found that many students return home with full water bottles as they just forget to drink water. This led to a rise in headaches, dehydration and other health issues in children. The management, therefore, decided to introduce the water bell to remind students to drink water.
How Water Bell Works
The water bell rings thrice in a day at 10.35 am, 12 pm and 2 pm. When the bell rings, the students are prompted to drink water. The kids are also taught the benefits of adequate consumption of water. It is imperative for schools to provide safe drinking water to their students. However, there is no facility or mechanism that will ensure that children drink water.
The unique water bell will act as an alarm for students to drink water and help them stay hydrated and healthy. This wonderful initiative by the Karnataka school needs to be emulated by all schools in India for the good health of the future generation. Offices and workplaces may also take a cue from this school and introduce the water bell as employees also tend to forget to drink water and endure dehydration related health problems.
