A compassionate wholesale vegetable vendor who was once struggling to make ends meet while he was setting up a market has been keeping a part of his of his daily vegetable stock for the poor and needy.
K Y Naseer, the vendor at a wholesale market in Ernakulam in Kerala has been supplying vegetables for free to Foundation for Annam Charity Ease (FACE), a Kochi-based charitable organization which provides mid-day meal to hundreds of poor people who come to their doorstep to pacify their hunger pangs.
The 47-year-old vendor said that he had come across poor and hungry children and adults begging for food but was unable to help them as he himself was trying to eke out a living. However, the ardent desire to help the poor did not leave him and in 2014, when he saw a long queue of people waiting for food at the office of FACE, he approached the officials and asked in what way he could help.
Considering his profession, the people at FACE asked whether he could supply vegetables on a daily basis to which he agreed and that too for free.
Today, he is happy and proud to be part of a team which aims to eradicate hunger and has been doing their bit to feed the hungry. He said that every time he gave something to the poor he felt some sort of satisfaction and solace in his mind. He believes that if people devote a bit of their time to feed the hungry, a hunger-free world will become a reality.
