With growing globalisation and urbanisation, nature and our resources are in threat. People across the globe knowingly or unknowingly cause harm to the environment which has an everlasting impact on nature. When we talk about houses, we humans buy plots which are barren and start building a house with cement and bricks. These houses that are constructed using these materials not only harm the environment but also are a part of destroying the green landscapes which further turn into concrete jungles.

A way out to omit this destruction to nature and its beings, countries have come up with Eco-friendly Homes. The concept of these homes is to build houses made of natural materials which have less or zero harm to the environment.

Eco-friendly houses though expensive can save up a lot in the long run.

"At present, India has 800 million square feet green built-up space, of which 40% is residential. We expect it to touch 1 billion square feet by 2012. The number will double by 2014," says S Raghupathy, executive director, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and head of the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre.

Seeing the growth in residential space, constructing eco-friendly houses has become a need.

Green homes offer quality living space. They also help you save money. A green building can lower energy consumption by 30-50% and water consumption by 30-70%," says Raghupathy.

"If you live in a green building, you save on things such as power and air-conditioning. After we've done our share of harm to the ecosystem, lets come together and save the little nature's beauty we're left with by building eco-friendly homes for a greener future.
