People are coming up with unique ideas every now and then to make the most out of the waste that can be recycled but, who knew someday the idea of making cloaks with plastic bottles will come into the picture.
The plastic bottles which were deposited at the headquarters of Coca-Cola throughout the Earth Day week will be utilized in making graduation robes and hats for the class of 2020 students of Atlanta Public Schools. Talking about the manufacturing of the graduation gear, pellets or small particles will be obtained from the broken bottles which will be woven into fabrics made out of polyester yarn. The materials will be then sent to a mill in order to stitch the cloak and the hat.
In a report by Coca-Cola, the superintendent of Atlanta Public Schools, Dr Meria Carstarphen stated that convocation day is an important part of their seniors’ lives. And while discussing it further she said: “Many of our students have persevered through adversity, overcome challenges and beat the odds to earn their diploma and carve out a bright future As such, donning caps and gowns in their splendid school colors on graduation day means so much to them.”
She further mentioned how grateful they are to Coca-Cola for making graduation gear out of recycled products for their students. This way, the cost of the cloak and cap will be deducted from students’ fees which at times become difficult for parents to afford.
It has been said that Americans are keen on recycling waste but, unaware of what to recycle. Therefore, Coca-Cola is collaborating with the non-profit partners and also local governments and consumers to organize collection campaigns not only in Atlanta but also in six other US cities.
It will be a unique experience for the class of 2020 students of APS and we hope Coca-Cola comes up with more such unique ideas in the near future.
