Cancer patients in Varanasi will no longer have to travel all the way to metros to get their cancer treated as soon a new state of the art cancer care centre will come up in Varanasi. This will provide relief to thousands of patients who spend months before getting the right diagnosis and treatment.
The new cancer care centre is an initiative between cancer hospitals, led by the Tata Memorial Trust. A detailed plan has been carried out for the construction of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (MPMM) Cancer Centre and it will be set up on the premises of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU)
The construction of the hospital will entail a cost of Rs 580 crore which will be taken up by Tata Trust who has also offered to provide equipment to the hospital.
To identify the occurrence of different types of cancers in the region, cancer patients have been asked to register themselves. Sources said that the report on the types of cancer in Varanasi region is likely to be ready by March 2018.
This advanced centre with patient-centric care will cater to the health needs of about 40 lakh people of the region. Mumbai's Tata Memorial Hospital has selected 15 cancer specialists, including the existing specialists from BHU and railway hospital to work in the hospital. Over 50 nurses and technicians are also being trained for the cause.
