Gita Gopinath, born in India, Mysore now becomes the first woman to occupy the top position in IMF. Gita Gopinath joins International Monetary Fund as its chief economist. She is a US citizen and an Overseas Citizen of India. She did her bachelor's degree from the University of Delhi and her master’s degree from the Delhi School of Economics and the University of Washington. She joined the University of Chicago in 2001 and received her PhD in economics from Princeton University before moving to Harvard in 2005.
Gita Gopinath 47, is the 11th economist of the IMF. She is an inspiration for many with a wonderful leadership quality in her and also a perfect role model for women across the world. The announcement of her appointment was done on Ist October at that time IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde described her as one of the world's outstanding economists with impeccable academic credentials.
