Sunita Kumari hails from a small village in Haryana. She taught science in school while bringing up her two daughters. However, the dream of flying was latent in her and after a decade she took flying lessons in Florida and returned to India and began hunting for a flyer's job.
Flying Pawan Hans
Hard work is always rewarded and Sunita landed a job in India’s premier chopper service, the Pawan Hans. She flies officials of the paramilitary (CRPF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police as well as civilians in case of a medical emergency.
Facing Challenges
Bagging this coveted dream job was not easy for Sunita. As she belonged to a patriarchal and gender skewed village in Haryana, she had to face many sexist comments. However, she never let the negativity deter her and focused on her goal.
Sunita believes that will and determination can take you places. Ever since restrictions were imposed in the valley, she has completed 43 days of flying. Sunita agrees that flying in the valley is very challenging, but she had always liked to take up difficult things. She is an inspiration for many young girls who dare to follow their dream.
