Misal Pav, a famous Maharashtrian vegan dish, has been named one of the world's best-rated vegan dishes by Taste Atlas, a food guide platform. The dish has secured the top spot among 7 Indian dishes that have ranked in the Top 50 list.
While international cuisines, such as guacamole, hummus, and spaghetti aglio e olio, dominated the top 10, Misal Pav took the top spot from India and was ranked number 11 on the list of the Best Traditional Vegan Dishes in the World.
Misal Pav is a curry-like dish made with moth beans, onions, chivda, and other ingredients, served with bread known as pav. It is a common Indian street food, office canteen food and is made in many households for breakfast, snack or just as a main course.
The World's Best Traditional Vegan Dishes list by Taste Atlas has been dominated by foreign delicacies, with Misal Pav taking the 11th position. Rajma and Aloo Gobi, two other Indian delicacies, secured the 20th and 22nd positions, respectively. Masala Vada, a well-known treat from Tamil Nadu, ranked at number 27, while Bhelpuri and Rajma Chawal ranked 37th and 41st, respectively.
Misal Pav comes in various forms like Kolhapuri Misal, Puneri Misal, Khandeshi misal, Nashik misal, and Ahmednagar misal. Moreover, the website has also listed named of some famous restaurants where people can enjoy this delicacy.
The dish's popularity is not new as it was previously named the world's tastiest vegetarian dish in 2015 by the Foodie Hub Awards in London.
