Rakesh Udiyar was only six years old when he lost his father. Unable to pay rent, he had to move to the slums with his family. To make ends meet, he would sell pepsi candies on the train. He worked at a construction site where his body got toned due to the lifting of weights. Later he started working as a cleaner at a gym and his life changed.
He picked up the nuances of bodybuilding and with dedication and perseverance he rose to become a coach and produced as many as five World Championship bodybuilding medallists for the nation. He was also responsible for actor Aamir Khan’s body transformation in Dangal.Recently Udiyar also trained Saiyed Iqbal to a silver medal at the Mr Olympia Amateur Championship, a first for India.
Udiyar’s story where he rose from working as a child laborer on the streets of Dharavi to training the likes of Aamir Khan is inspiring indeed.
