Eco-bridges are built to improve animal connectivity that may be hampered by traffic passing on highways in forested regions. Telangana will soon have its first overpass bridge on the Mancherial – Chandrapur route on National Highway 63.
The eco-bridge being built close to Wankidi is an overpass structure, as opposed to typical underpasses, which are built in forested areas. The bridge will allow for the passage of wild animals, facilitating the migration of animals, particularly tigers, and preventing them from being struck by speeding motorists. Vehicular traffic will pass under the bridge.
Tigers frequently cross through the Mancherial-Chandrapur path as they migrate from Maharashtra into Telangana, making it a critical ecological area in the Kaghaznagar forest.
The overpass bridge, which is roughly 1 km long, is being built for Rs 30 crore by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Officials of NHAI claim that the bridge will be ready in another six months. The structure was being built by regulations set forth by the Wildlife Institute of India. The official claimed that all eco-friendly procedures were being followed when the work was being done.
The flyover bridge was constructed to make it easy and safe for wild animals to cross the road. According to the official, the bridge would not look like a typical bridge because there would be a lot of flora on either side leading to it.
