Observing the World Health Day falling on April 7, a non-government organisation has decided to fight against depression and avoid suicides. World Health Organisation has this year chosen a theme Depression: Let’s Talk.
The weeklong awareness program by Connecting, NGO, starting from April 7 will see hashtags #iamlistening and #suicideawareness that will go viral on social media and connect different people.
The NGO will launch a signature campaign ‘I will support and listen to people in distress’ which will help people to understand what is depression and those who are suffering will be motivated to talk about it.
There will be special awareness programs in the schools and colleges that will make students aware about what is depression and how suicide is not the only solution and one can overcome depression by just talking your heart out with anyone and everyone you trust. This awareness campaign will also help people suffering from depression to reach out people and seek help.
There will be presentations on depression and how one can prevent it. The NGO is also planning to enact street plays in various public places to reach more and more people. Banners and placards about how to tackle psychological disorder will also be a part of this campaign.
