The FIFA inspection team was highly impressed by the infrastructure at the Indira Gandhi Stadium which is one of the six venues where the U-17 world cup matches will be played later this year.
FIFA Head of Events Jaime Yarza, on completing the inspection said that the Assam Government was wonderful and their eagerness to be a great venue for the first FIFA tournament in the country is praiseworthy.
Jaime Yarza said that they are aware that the Indian supporters are very passionate about the game and were pleased to see the preparations in Guwahati. They intended to give a great world Cup to the fans in Northeast India.
Some minor issues still needed to be sorted out like development of new hotel rooms for teams, but everything was going as per plan and all work is on schedule.
Tournament Director of the Local Organising Committee, Javier Ceppi was also very happy with the progress and said that the Assam government has taken huge efforts to make the World Cup a grand success in the state. The operational and promotional matters are being looked into carefully so that the people of Assam and neighbouring Northeastern States can enjoy the World Cup matches
The FIFA delegation will finish its weeklong inspection at Kolkata on Monday.
