Christmas will be celebrated in its true spirit by spreading joy and smiles as Euston station, London will open its doors to over 200 homeless people on Christmas Day and offer them dinner and a place to sleep.

Many might be concerned that this would hamper the normal functioning of the station and inconvenience commuters, but let it be known that trains don’t run during Christmas, thus making the vast space of the station available for this beautiful event.

This is the first time that the station will be decked with Christmas decorations, tables will be laid out filled with food. The event is being organized by over  30 volunteers from the Network Rail and homelessness charities St Mungo’s and Streets Kitchen.

Community and event manager for St Mungo’s Beth Nordon said that many people become homeless because of relationship breakdowns so Christmas can be a particularly lonely time for them. This initiative is to spread cheer to them.

The social media rejoiced on hearing about this novel initiative and urged other stations to follow suit. Many have even offered to help.

Steve Naybour, head of transformation, Network Rail’s track team said, “Using a station to give homeless people a Christmas dinner and some festive cheer is a great thing to do. I’m proud to say we’ve had lots of interest from Network Rail colleagues to volunteer to come along on the day to help out. Everything, including people’s time, has been donated.”
