Dr. Sarojini Naidu is an octogenarian living in Lucknow where she founded Manisha Mandir to take care of orphaned and abandoned girls. Thirty years ago, she was devastated by the death of her 8-year-old daughter in a road accident. It was very painful for her to get over the loss. Gradually realization dawned on her that one need not give birth to be a mother and that there were many daughters out there who were homeless and orphans and needed love and care.
She became a caregiver, companion, confidant and educator to hundreds of girls who grew up under her loving care. Many of the girls became bankers, teachers and principals and many were married off in good families. She set up the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Beti Badhao Academy to facilitate higher education among girls from poor families through the Manisha Higher Education Scholarship. This compassionate lady overcame her sorrow to spread happiness in others' lives.
