Dr Abhay and Rani Bhang have devoted their life in building healthcare facilities for the backward and tribal regions of Maharashtra.
The duo are Indian social activists and researchers working in the field of community health in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. Working towards revolutionising healthcare for the poorest sections and holding programmes to reduce the infant mortality rates in the region.
The two established Shodh Gram, a model tribal village in Gadchiroli with tribal friendly amenities for the poor. The amenities included hospitals, canteen, temple, training centre, pharmacy, etc.
Dr Abhay and Rani Bhang even though graduated from the best institute, John Hopkins Institute of Public Health gave up a luxurious life and devoted their whole life in working in remote areas for the poor and tribal people of the Naxal-hit region.
For this noble work towards the society, the duo was awarded the Padma Shri.
