In the quest to put into implementation many infrastructural projects that were stuck for two years, the Delhi government has decided to convert 89 villages to urban. After Lt Governor Anil Baijal approved the Delhi Development Authority's (DDA) Land-Pooling Policy (LPP), the Urban Development Department of the Delhi government declared the commencement of the projects.
The major task of LPP is to convince the individuals and landowners in the periphery where the project is to be constructed to hand over their land to DDA by pooling. The DDA later develops all the projects on the pooled land and then returns a significant part of the land to the owners.
The policy has a construction of 25 lakh housing units by 2021 that will require 10 thousand hectares of land. Some of the villages declared to be urban by the Delhi government are Sultanpur Dabas, Bazidpur Takran, Mukhmelpur, Neb Sarai, Baprola, Bakkarwala, Goela Khurd, Neelwal and Salahpur Majra.
This policy will provide affordable housing to over 20 lakh families and improve the living conditions for those families. The policy ensures providing relief to farmers, giving farmers the freedom to tie up with the developers and impose a penalty on DDA on work delay.
